The Proposal 10-26-18

Earlier this year, I decided I wanted to host a Halloween party. I hadn't hosted an event since my college years, and now that I'm more financially stable, I wanted to put together something fun. I chose a Harry Potter theme as it was easy enough to find decorations for, and even easier for guests to find costumes--even coming in plainclothes would be acceptable, as long as they didn't mind being a muggle!

The month leading up to the party was stressful. There was a lot to do; I had undertaken too many crafting projects for the party, work was asking for 10-15 hours overtime each week, and the Friday before the party, I had a national exam for my profession. Luckily, my best friend was flying in to visit from out of state that night, so I was more excited to see her than I was nervous about taking the test!

After the test was over and Jennifer had safely landed, we spent the rest of the evening tracking down her costume and final details for the party. The following day was Saturday, the day of the party, and there was still a lot to do. The whole day was spent running around getting the last needed items, including the keg.

Safely strapped in!

We made sure there was enough alcohol.

Eventually, the time came and our guests started arriving. We had a shot of Felix Felicis for luck, many rounds of Quidditch Pong, and a game of Muggles Against Humanity. I was starting to feel my drinks pretty good by then. Jennifer and I held the beer pong table for three games before we lost. Then Mark called a toast to thank everyone for coming, and...

Poor Mark. After my initial reaction of "Are you serious?" I just started crying, damn near sobbing, and couldn't stop. Jennifer pounced me almost immediately. I remember her repeating "Oh my God" over and over, which is about how I was feeling, too. So happy, shocked, grateful.

He did finally get the "Yes" he was waiting for. Amidst my buzz-turning-drunk and losing an eyelash in all the hugs, I was not the most glamorous, but I am so very glad to have these videos to look back on and to share with my family. Thank you Penelope! And thank you Mark for telling a few friends ahead of time so they came prepared.

Mark removed his wig for our first photo together as fiance/fiancee.

And Jonny couldn't wait to post, Mark entertaining us drunk people all the while.

Mark mentioned he looked for my phone before proposing so he could call my dad first but he couldn't find it because I leave it all over the house and even the next morning Jonny found it on the floor. It was a very sweet thought, and I'm happy he meant to!

We've got an amazing engagement ahead!
